Sulphuric Acid

The information service provided consist of a semi-annual report which presents updated forecasts on sulphuric acid production and consumption in Chile and Peru for individual producers and consumers of acid, with a horizon of ten years , including historical data for the last few years. This information allows inferring the acid deficit (or any surplus) in the Chile/Peru region, after deducting acid surplus in Peru, partially covering the very high deficits that are forecasted in the case of Chile. The level of the regional deficit, which must be closed with imported acid from Asia or Europe, or produced locally on the basis of sulphur burners, will determine, among other factors, the local price of acid in the region.

The report includes, on one hand, data and comments on forecasted sulphuric acid production from smelters, sulphur burners and from sulphur gases derived from the roasting of molybdenite. On the other hand, the report includes individual sulphuric acid consumption by both existing and future copper leaching operations, which constitute more than 95 per cent of total acid consumption in the region. It also describes the acid consumption of non-metal mining and industrial sector, including acid consumption of the forestry sector in Chile (cellulose).

The report is delivered to the client twice-a-year by mid-June and mid-December each year via Internet.
